Quoted from the NTNU document: Grading system and explanation of non-doctoral degrees at NTNU:

Grading system
NTNU began using the letter grading system for all examinations and assessments as of 1 September 2001. Prior to this date, NTNU used a numeric grading system based on a scale of 1.0 to 6.0, with 1.0 being the highest passing mark and the marks between 4.1 and 6.0 indicating failure. Numeric marks were converted to letters and all course examinations and transcripts now only use the letter grading system.
[...]
In addition, in the assessment of some subjects, the grade of Passed/Failed may be used. Required assignments that are not subject to any evaluation are assessed by the grade of Completed/Not completed (for example, field work).

[...]
Credit and weighting system
The credit or weighting system now used at NTNU is based upon a yearly workload of 20 credits, which corresponds to 60 European Credit Transfer System credits (ECTS). Previously, NTNU’s faculties teaching Engineering and Architecture used a weighting system based upon a yearly workload of 96 "Load Units".
